On September 2, 2026, Kyiv hosted the Confectionery Business 2026 professional conference, bringing together representatives of the confectionery industry to discuss current challenges, production development and technologies for modern food manufacturing.
BASIS Packaging Equipment took part in the event, sharing its practical experience in packaging automation and engineering solutions for food producers.
During the conference, Max Bayer, Development Director at BASIS Packaging Equipment, presented the topic “When the Product Defines the Technology.”

The presentation focused on a key aspect of packaging automation: the product itself often determines the technology and engineering approach required to package it efficiently.
Different products can have completely different requirements for:
- product feeding and orientation;
- dosing and weighing;
- handling and product protection;
- packaging materials;
- carton forming and closing;
- production speed;
- changeover between SKUs;
- integration with existing production lines.
Based on real BASIS projects, the presentation demonstrated how these factors influence the design of an automated packaging solution.
From product characteristics to packaging automation
One of the main conclusions was that effective automation starts long before selecting a packaging machine.
The product, its physical characteristics, packaging format, required production output and existing production process must be considered together.
This engineering approach allows manufacturers to develop packaging systems that provide stable production performance, consistent packaging quality and reduced dependency on manual operations, while also allowing for future expansion.
The discussion following the presentation showed strong interest from confectionery manufacturers in practical approaches to production modernisation and packaging automation.

Practical experience from food production
BASIS Packaging Equipment develops and integrates automated packaging solutions for the food industry, including cartoning, multipack packaging, vertical packaging and end-of-line automation.
The company’s experience across different food segments allows engineering solutions developed for one application to be adapted to other products and production environments.
The Confectionery Business 2026 Conference was also an opportunity to exchange experience with industry professionals, discuss current production challenges and identify new areas for cooperation.
Thank you to Marko Pack for organising the conference and to all participants for the valuable meetings, questions and professional discussions.
